Back in July we visited my husbands grandma (Grandma GiGi) in Palm Dessert. She was so lovely and made us dinner every night we stayed there. One of my favorite meals she made us was this Peach Whisky Chicken dish. OMG soOooOoo good!!! I actually thought it was a secret family recipe but it turned out it was not. She got this recipe from Ree Drummond The Pioneer Woman. You can find the original recipe here.
Once I got home I knew I had to make it again. It turned out just the same as Grandma GiGi made it. So sweet and savory. You can make this dish with a side of rice or even some buttery mashed potatoes. What I love to do is pour the sauce all over my chicken, rice, and vegetables. I even love eating the warm, juicy, and sweet peaches. It is seriously the best comfort food!
I knew I had to share this recipe with you guys because it is THAT good and so EASY to make. I love a good recipe that all you have to do is just toss a bunch of ingredients into a pot and let the oven do the rest. Who doesn’t love recipes like that? I do! Eazy Peazy!
The only downside about this recipe is that you do really need a good Dutch Oven pot. I did not have one so I had to buy my very first one ever! It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing unless you are tight on funds (you can always borrow one from a neighbor, family, or friend too), but it made me get one and I can’t wait to make other recipes in it. So if you have some favorite recipes that you like to cook in your Dutch Oven pot, please send them my way! I may feature them on my blog!
How To Make Peach Whisky Chicken
First, gather all your ingredients.
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (I love using avocado oil)
- 12 chicken legs or thighs, bone in, skin on
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 & 1/2 cups whisky (your favorite Whisky)
- 4 cups barbecue sauce (your favorite BBQ sauce)
- 1 cup peach preserves
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 4 peaches, pitted and sliced into 8 slices each
Preheat the oven to 300°F degrees.
Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat.
Add the chicken pieces and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 5 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Add the onions to the skillet and stir and cook over medium heat until translucent, about 3 minutes.
Pour in the whisky, taking care if you are cooking over an open flame. Cook for 3 minutes or so, allowing the whisky to cook and reduce.
Grab your favorite bottled barbecue sauce and pour it into the pan.
Add the peach preserves, Worcestershire sauce and 1/2 cup water to the sauce, then whisk to combine.
Add the chicken back to the pan.
Then throw in the peaches.
Cover the skillet with a lid or aluminium foil, and then roast in the oven until the chicken is tender and falling off the bone and the peaches are soft (about 1 & 1/2 hours).
You can serve this chicken with mashed potatoes or rice. I love to pour the sauce over my mashed potatoes or rice and the chicken. So delicious!
