How To Make Mummy Puff Pastries
First, gather all your ingredients.
- 1 package of Puff Pastry (2 sheets), thawed at room temperature
- 3 tablespoons Milk, for brushing
- 12 Candy Eye Balls
- Raspberry Pie filling
OR HOMEMADE RASPBERRY PIE FILLING:
- 2 cups of raspberries fresh or frozen
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Next, preheat oven to 375°F degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.
Thaw puff pastry sheets out at room temperature for no more than 40 minutes or until pastry unfolds easily. Thawed sheets should still be cold.
Unroll the pastry and cut one sheet into 6 equal sized rectangles. Cut the other sheet of pastry into thin strips.
Spoon the raspberry pie filling onto the rectangles, avoiding the outer edge.
Add dough strips decoratively to look like mummies, and gently press the edges to seal the pastries.
Brush with milk and bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Remove from oven and decorate with candy eyeballs. Serve warm.
Tips & Tricks
You can literally use any filling you desire. Here are some other options:
- Your favorite jam (strawberry, grape, red raspberry, blackberry, raspberry/blackberry, boysenberry, apricot, red plum, peach, orange marmalade, blueberry, or cherry).
- Your favorite pie filling (apple pie, pumpkin, blueberry, blackberry, cherry, strawberry, peach, chocolate, lemon, or key lime).
- Tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese for a savory treat (add some pepperoni too!).
- I love the LARGE baking pan I got from my favorite store Target Wilton Ultra Bake Professional.
- Lastly, I love using Amazon Basics Silicone Baking Mat instead of parchment paper. They are super easy to clean and they fit perfectly in your baking pan.
FOR HOMEMADE RASPBERRY PIE FILLING
Add the raspberries, lemon juice and sugar to a pan and heat, stirring often until thawed (if using frozen) and the raspberries break up a bit. Reduce the heat and simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened slightly.
